Lot description
Fischerbucht mit Reusenstangen. Ca. 1940/1942.
Colored chalk over ink pen and watercolor.
Signed in lower right. On firm wove paper. 26 x 40 cm (10.2 x 15.7 in), the full sheet. [AM].
• The powerful ink pen drawing and the dynamic use of the color chalks add a striking presence to this depiction.
• The sparse use of watercolors makes for the special appeal of this high-contrast work.
• Comparably expressive and modern works by the artist are very rare on the international auction market (source: artprice.com).
The work is documented in the archive of the Karl and Emy Schmidt-Rottluff Foundation, Berlin.
PROVENANCE: Hermann Gerlinger Collection, Würzburg (with the collector's stamp, Lugt 6032).
EXHIBITION: Schleswig-Holsteinisches Landesmuseum, Schloss Gottorf, Schleswig (permanet loan from the Hermann Gerlinger Collection, 1995-2001).
